The Mingmongkol Buddha. The Largest Buddha in Phuket. Heaven on a hill.

High atop Khao Nekkard in Chalong, the Mingmongkol Big Buddha is being built. Purported to be the tallest Buddha image in all of Thailand, this concrete-and-marble construction is due to be finished around this time next year. The project covers 42 rai (6.72 hectare) of land on what was a Japanese military base during World War II. There are actually two Pangmarnvichai Buddha images; one is a gold-alloy Buddha image which is 5.49 meters wide, 12.49 meters in height and weighs 22 tons. This Buddha image is now complete and on display for public to pay respect. The larger Buddha image will be 25.45 meters wide and 45 meters tall completed.
On Sunday November 27, 2011 The Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 5th December 2011, To present Phra-phut-tha-mingmongkhol Eak-naka-keeree (The Big Buddha Phuket) to His Majesty The King Bumiphol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit as the state property at the Ceremony on top of Nakkerd Mountain, Phuket Thailand.
